  1. I thought that the book "THE SALMON BEAR" was an interesting book one of my favourite part was about the spirit bears spirit bears are bears that look like polar bears due to their wight fur they're only 400 left. Also, did you know that baby brown bears (cubs) when the play they're akshwaly learning but they are warned because they're only cubs they have to stay close to their mothers because preditors like a coager could get them so these are the things that really where facinating to me. jr grade six o:)

  2. I just finished my book and I totally agree with Jr. This book was so interesting and for some reason I am really loving all the silverbirch books this year. I also find that these Salmon Bears are really good parents and the cubs are so cute and playfull.

  3. We just finished the book "Salmon Bears" and we thought it was a very good book, It was interesting because it talked about their habitat and how they live. The books these years for silver birch are really good and especially "Salmon Bears". One part we both enjoyed a lot was chapter 1 "A Magical Place" We thought it was amazing because it was very interesting because it's talking about their location of where they live and it tells us what the bears do during the day and night. As well it tells us about their predators and all types of bears in the rainforest. I thought it was the best in silver birch.

  4. I am reading the book called ''The salmon bear '' so far I really like it . I was reading through the book when I came across a picture of a bear eating a pregnant fish but when the bear was eating the fish; the eggs were coming out it was nasty, but cool at the same time.

This book reminds me of the time I went camping with my dad and we were about to eat diner when a big bear arrived at are camp site and started eating our food and walked away .

I was wondering what made you want to write this book ? is it because you love or like bears ?

I am the kind of girl that likes to read fiction books I don't really like nonfiction books but this one was really ,really good .So keep up the good writing.

  5. Abigail I thought that your comment was very descriptive. I thought it was descriptive because when you said about the pregnant fish and when the bear was eating it the eggs came out I thought that was cool to but at the same time disgusting I liked how you asked the questions about the authors book that was a very good idea maybe I will do that to for the next book I read. :D jr

  6. I really liked the book "Salmon Bears" becauseit was extremely intresting and I loved the photos. One photo that I liked is the one that showed the salmon ,this was a special salmon that were red. One of the intresting facts is that the bears are heavier when they start hibernating then when they wake up. This is because they eat a lot before they fall asleep. Also, before I thought the bears eat in there hibernation. To the author, where did you learn all those facts, and know it's true.

I really liked the book salmon bears because like Simon said I also thought that bears eat in their hibernation but they don't and I liked how you laid out the pictures and facts.I was also wondering how you got all the cool facts from like that bears eat the eggs from squeezing their body. Also how did you think of such a good name for the book?

  14. I L.O.V.E.D the book Salmon Bears because of the beautiful pictures and it's descriptiveness. For example, when it said that 20000 calories is equivalente to 40 big macs.It said that because a bear needs 20000 calories while hibernating in the winter. This made sence to me.

  16. I really enjoyed reading this book because I thought it was interesting because it talked about what bears do during the season like in winter they hibernate and in the spring since every thing is growing they depend on plants that didn't die druing the winter and there cubs during winter drink they mothers milk to keep them alive because its to cold to go outside and eat.
I also thought it was a little boring because I am not really into nature books and I found it very boring like in the middle, but I would recomend it to people that like nature books and bears.
    P.S I liked the pictures!

  18. Salmon Bears was a pretty interesting book to read. I thought it was interesting because of the cool facts it had. Like how bears "mark" their territory by peeing and rubbing its scent on trees, which was gross but cool in a way. ;)

I also like the photographs because they were good quality and matched the text. There were also captions which were helpful.

I have some questions too. ;D

    1. How did you find your information about the Great Bear Rainforest?

    2. What facts did you find most interesting?

    3. Why did you decide to write a book about the bears in the Great Bear Rainforest?

    4. When did you start writing and what or who inspired you to write?

    :)

  19. I thought that this book was very informative about the bears and Ian McAllister and Nicholas Read did a really good job informing us about one of the only natural nature reserves. This book was so interesting, I want to read the book by the same authors called the Sea Wolves and the Spirit Bears. I hope the authors write more books like that. I also think that could do a really good job writing a fictional book that has real facts about the Sea Wolves, The Salmon Bears and the Spirit Bears. I thought that is also really cool that spirit bears are grizzly bears with a white pigment!!!!! Eric W
